The original upon which Brothers is based is the 2004 Danish film Brødre written by Susanne Bier and Anders Thomas Jensen which was directed by Bier. Brødre tells the story of a heroic older brother who serves in Afghanistan, his polar opposite younger brother and the woman who loves them both. Whereas Brødre was shot in Copenhagen with Spain standing in for Afghanistan, the bulk of Brothers was shot in New Mexico.A six-time Academy Award nominee, Sheridan is best known for his work directing In America and In the Name of the Father.
