Happy Easter Weekend, Weirdos!

Romance, 8,427
Romance, a method of courtship defined by mystery and subtlety, died February 28. It was 8,427 years old. Though it was plagued in recent years by painful bouts of bloat and Reese Witherspoon, the immediate cause of death was Del Taco manager Josh Rivkin uploading a video of his girlfriend squatting above a canister of Pringles, filmed with a camera inside the canister. Born in early Sumerian civilization, romance was responsible for countless sonnets, serenades, and chivalrous acts. It thrived on veiled meanings and longing. It left no survivors.

Romantic Comedy, 81, Dies
A once beloved film genre about two strangers who overcome a seemingly insurmountable obstacle and end up as a happy couple, romantic comedy died in a conference room on the Warner Brothers studio lot Friday, as screenwriter Joe Bernstein was pitching a Kate Hudson vehicle about the romance between a dairy farmer and a lactose-intolerant woman.
Mark Ruffalo & Reese Witherspoon in "Just Like Heaven".

The cause was exhaustion. Observers close to the genre feared romantic comedy would die upon the release of the 2005 Reese Witherspoon/Mark Ruffalo movie Just Like Heaven, about the unlikely courtship between a ghost and a landscape architect, but it persisted in a vegetative state for three more years.

Vampires, 112, Die
The trend of vampire-related entertainment died March 14, in New York. The cause was Rob Schecter, a HarperCollins editor who assigned a young-adult novel about teenage vampires with anorexia. Born in 1819 with the publication of The Vampyre, by John Polidori, the trend centered on mythical creatures who sucked blood, avoided sunlight, and, most recently, looked like Marcel Marceau but with more hair gel. Vampires survived dozens of novels, an HBO series, and a Keanu Reeves movie. But the proposed YA novel proved fatal. "It's like Twilight but much edgier," said Schecter of the book idea. "We want to deal with real issues here. These vampire girls hate drinking blood because they think it's too fattening." Vampires are survived by zombies, werewolves, and investment bankers.

My Crush on Megan Fox, 11 Months, Dies
My crush on Megan Fox, the actress from the Transformers franchise, died February 5, in my friend's living room. The cause was a magazine article in which Ms. Fox told an interviewer that her farts smell like Chinese food after eating at a Chinese restaurant and that she often forgets to flush the toilet.
My crush was born in March 2009 after seeing a movie trailer with Ms. Fox on YouTube and noting that she resembles a mixture of Angelina Jolie and an inflatable doll. Though I never actually watched any movies featuring Ms. Fox, my crush flourished thanks to magazine photos and Google Image Search. My crush's health began to decline when it was revealed that Ms. Fox has a prose poem tattooed on her rib cage. It then deteriorated precipitously upon my learning she had the name of then-boyfriend Brian Austin Green, of Beverly Hills, 90210, tattooed on her pelvis.

My Wife's Crush on Kiefer Sutherland, 4, Is Dead

My Wife's Crush on Kiefer Sutherland, an actor best known for his work as an intense federal agent on the Fox drama 24, died April 11 on our couch. The cause was the revelation that Mr. Sutherland has formed an indie record label. The crush was four years old. Born in November of 2001 with the premiere episode of 24, the infatuation was a surprise to all. My Wife's Crush on Kiefer Sutherland had been in declining health since she discovered that Mr. Sutherland had moved to Montana in the mid-1990s and joined the rodeo circuit. The immediate cause of death, however, was an Extra interview in which Mr. Sutherland plugged his record label, called Ironworks.

Ellen Pompeo's Last Remaining Fat Cell Dies at 38
The final subcutaneous fat cell on the body of Ellen Pompeo -- star of TV’s popular Grey’s Anatomy -- died Sunday in Los Angeles. It was thirty-eight. The fat cell expired during a strenuous session of Bikram yoga in the Hancock Park section of L. A. It had been located on Ms. Pompeo’s left thigh.
The fat cell had been one of the few that accompanied Ms. Pompeo during her career, including appearances on Law & Order and in Old School. It had most recently been storing some glucose 6-P that Ms. Pompeo unknowingly ingested in her daily Pinkberry green-tea frozen yogurt. It is survived by bones and ligaments. Source: www.esquire.com

Kristen Stewart getting the music right in The Runaways

"We both were really concerned about getting the music right" says Stewart. "They have a very distinctive sound. It's not just singing. It's not just trying to sound good. It's trying to sound like them.Kristen Stewart with Joan Jett at Los Angeles Premiere of The Runaways.

"I had two weeks with Kristen; I knew she could play guitar and she was already practicing on her own," she says. "She already had recorded a little bit so I knew that she would come in prepared. I had about a month with Dakota and I put her in front of a live band for many rehearsals. Then when everybody got together I did numerous rehearsals as a band. So by the time I was filming they had already bonded and already knew what it was like to be in a band. I felt really confident on that level and so did they. I think that was really important. By the time we got to 'Cherry Bomb' they really excelled. We had a month of shooting and by that time they were a band."

Listen to
"Hollywood" by The Runaways

The Runaways Q&A opening with Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning The Runaways cast talks about the film at the opening of the Q&A session at SXSW!

Dakota Fanning is asked to act out the famous mic "over the leg" move as seen in the Runaways.

"The soundtrack is a good mix of the original Runaways songs, plus new versions sung by Stewart (as Joan Jett) and Dakota Fanning (as Cherie Currie). The album also includes an impressive collection of songs from artists that influenced both women in not only their musical style, but their personal style as well.
Always curious to see how actors do when faced with the challenge of depicting musical artists, Stewart and Fanning succeeded in embodying the style, and they weren’t too bad on the ears either. Fanning is particularly impressive as she channels Cherie Currie’s growl and attitude on her solo tracks. I have no doubt a whole new generation of girls will be singing “ch-ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb” thanks to this electric track". Source: gordonandthewale.com

Alanis Morisette wrote "I Remain" song for Prince of Persia

"Lending their musical talents to Disney films has scored hits and awards for artists like Randy Newman, Elton John, Christina Aguilera and Sting. Now Alanis Morissette has teamed with the entertainment giant, writing 'I Remain' for the upcoming film 'Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.'
The movie, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley and Gemma Arterton, was a natural vehicle for Morissette, who penned the song about Arterton's princess character. "It's an honor to write from the voice of an empowered princess about a love that empowers them both to new heights, healing and consciousness," Morissette said in a statement. "The song wrote itself and this story was the ultimate muse." Source: www.spinner.om

Robert Pattinson is picky about his roles

Robert Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin in "Remember Me".

The 23-year-old actor has become a global superstar after playing brooding vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight, but his latest film is indie flick Remember Me, which he revealed stood out from the hundreds of roles he has been offered.
Robert said: "I never like anything, so it's quite easy to decide what to do - I've never felt any pressure to do anything, particularly. Even when we were shooting it [Remember Me] I never thought about the box office."

He added: "I had read tonnes and tonnes of scripts over the summer after I did Twilight, I mean hundreds, and everything seemed exactly the same.

"But this one, the way the dialogue was written, it just seemed much more naturalistic than most things.

"It's not really a feel-good movie. They don't make movies like it anymore, I think that's how I kind of choose stuff, that's the only criteria I have. There seems to be a gap in the market for something and I just try and do that."

Robert hopes his Twilight fans like the new film but revealed he would never appear in a film simply to please an audience.

He said: "Obviously you hope people like things but I think if you start doing stuff to please a certain audience then you're going in the wrong direction. I mean, you don't even know the people you're trying to please, especially if you're trying to please whole swathes of people. "I hope they like it."

"New Moon" Subtle Details and "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner"

Twilight saga "Eclipse" cover artwork.

"When Stephenie Meyer published "Breaking Dawn," it brought to an end her wildly popular "Twilight" vampire saga. So any new book in the pantheon is both unexpected and welcome. On Tuesday, fans were thrilled to learn that "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner" a new novella, will be available in June.

"Her story is a nice complement to 'Eclipse', the third book in the "Twilight" saga, Meyer writes on her website. "It explains a lot of the things that Bella never knew."

The movie "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" is scheduled to hit screens at the end of June. And in the weeks prior, readers can get their hands on the new book.
The existence of "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner" was so closely guarded that actress Jodelle Ferland, who read it as help for playing Bree in the "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," burned the manuscript once she was finished (Meyer has a photo of her with the soggy ashes).
Now that it's out there, Meyer is making two charitable moves with the novella. From June 7 to July 5 it will be available for free download at breetanner.com. Secondly, for each actual sale of the book -- which costs around $10 online -- $1 will be donated to the American Red Cross. On her website, Meyer specifies that the donation will be designated to provide relief to victims of the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile, and others in need.

In addition to supplying emergency relief, one of the primary missions of the American Red Cross is "the collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products."

"According to Deadline.com, the adaptation of the author's first adult novel, "The Host," could go before cameras as early as next year.

Published in 2008, the book involves benevolent yet parasitic aliens who have taken over the minds of almost all the humans on Earth. Upon its release, Meyer described the plot to MTV News as " 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers,' if the aliens had won."
Although financing is not yet in place and no definite shooting schedule is planned for the sci-fi/horror hybrid, producer Steve Schwartz divulged that "Truman Show" Oscar-nominee Andrew Niccol is currently working on his third draft of the screenplay, with the author's close involvement. Niccol is also signed on to direct the film". Source: www.mtv.com

"The Runaways" is a cinematic miracle

"Sex and drugs and rock ’n’ roll. Angst and anger and alienation. Rags to riches to heartbreak. We’ve seen this all before... and we haven’t, either. Not like this. There hasn’t been a movie like The Runaways, one about women rockers that’s just as raw and earthy and tough and pitiless as the ones about the men are.
“This isn’t about women’s lib, it’s about women’s libido,” Fowley screams in one of the many wonderfully frenzied moments Michael Shannon (Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, Lucky You) imbues him with: he’s excited about the possibility of these chicks, and while he is ever obnoxious in how he pushes them -- like when he makes the band practice dealing with heckers by hiring guys to come throw crushed beer cans and feces at them during a rehearsal -- he’s never wrong. If he’s attempting to exploit them, Jett and Currie never acede and let themselves be exploited (or at least not any further than is beneficial to them). Perhaps the most truly amazing thing about The Runaways is how Sigismondi keeps all sense of the exploitive out of the film.Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie.

Teenaged girls getting shit thrown at them by teenaged boys could have been deeply creepy... and so could have, say, the underaged Fanning parading around in fuck-me lingerie, or Fowley’s glee at the prospect of Currie’s appeal to music fans: “Jail-fucking-bait!” he cries. “Jack-fucking-pot!” That The Runaways manages to be about sex without being self-consciously titillating and about rage without being overputtingly bitter itself is a cinematic miracle".
