Environmental policies

"A nationally-recognized Washington Post environmental reporter spoke in Moscow Monday. Juliet Eilperin’s headlining presentation was held at the 1912 Center. She spoke about the environmental policies of President Barack Obama, specifically whether or not she believes he will be able to follow through with environmental promises made during his campaign. “This is a rare opportunity for an inside-the-Beltway perspective from one of the country’s top environmental reporters,” said Kenton Bird, director of the School of Journalism and Mass Media. “Juliet Eilperin will help us better understand how well President Obama will be able to implement his agenda for the environment, including climate change, public lands and the Endangered Species Act.”She graduated from Princeton University in 1992 after working on her undergraduate thesis in Mexico City. After college, she lived in Seoul, South Korea for a year on a fellowship. She began reporting for the Washington Post in 1994 as its House of Representatives reporter and has been the Post’s national environmental reporter since 2004.

Eilperin said her background in politics helped her with her environmental reporting, especially while on the campaign trail.

She published her first book, “Fight Club Politics: How Partisanship is Poisoning the House of Representatives.”

“Congress isn’t a representation of the people … because of how we draw congressional lines”, she said".

Jennifer Aniston doesn't think perfect relationships exist

"Jen’s appeal lies in that girl-next-door quality she embodies so thoroughly. More than any other A-list actress, she makes you feel you know her. You can imagine chatting with her over a bottle of wine on a girls’ night out. Her latest film, Marley & Me, shot to the number one spot as soon as it came out in America at the end of last year. It’s already made over £100 million in the US alone, and Jennifer makes no attempt to hide her enthusiasm for the heart-warming romantic comedy. She does say that she has no idealised expectations about anything – including romance. Is there such a thing as a perfect relationship? ‘I don’t have one and I don’t think it exists. We are just fooling ourselves if we think it does. Whoever said that every relationship has to last for ever? That’s hoping for too much. I think every relationship is a world unto itself. The truth is, I’m very romantic. It’s a shame that people stop being romantic out of laziness. And communication is vital. People often expect their partner to read their minds and when that doesn’t happen, they get upset, then the other person gets even more upset, and it is all because they didn’t talk it over at the beginning.’
Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston attending the UK premiere of "Marley & Me" held at The Vue Cinema, Leicester Square on 2nd March, in London, England.

Did her role as a mother in Marley & Me make her wistful about starting a family herself? ‘Of course I’d like to be a mother some day, and I love children. But a movie like this reminds you that you start your life with expectations and dreams, then life unfolds and it doesn’t always turn out the way you’d imagined.
Jennifer is godmother to four-year-old Coco, daughter of her best friend Courteney Cox, and says all the Friends are still close, although Courteney is the only one she sees on a regular basis. ‘You have grand plans, like, “We’ll have dinner once a month.” And then life happens; times change".

Ok, Jen, the notion of a solid or perfect relationship is more and more inexistent these days, because nobody is perfect, but at least some of us, married women in a stable relationship, like to pretend we have one because I think my hubby is perfect for me. And how much did Jennifer flirt spuriously in "The Good Girl" with Jakey? (within the story she was a unfaithful married woman, in real life she was married to Brad Pitt, although shooting "The Good Girl", Jennifer said they used padding under the sheets in the motel scenes).

Prince of Persia and Transformers 2

"It’d originally been set for a June 2009 release but Disney, producer of Ubisoft’s best-selling game Prince of Persia, thought it best to move the film’s showing to May of 2010 so as not to compete with Tranformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen... allegedly, coz that would be like The Mummy Returns showing on the same day as The Dark Knight.

Anyway now that it’s been moved to May 2010, it should go up against Thor and Shrek Goes Fourth which should be a tighter competition. I guess people should just give this movie some confidence since I for one am waiting for Jake Gyllenhaal to run up walls in his Aladdin costume". Source: backlinemedia.com

"What’s a Michael Bay movie without car spiraling out of nowhere. This week, explosion rocked Long Beach as seen in this video from the upcoming Transformers sequel. It’s awesome enough to see in live action (but that’s because its simulated of course). Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen hits theaters June 26, 2009".

Drew Barrymore whips it!

"When I ask if she sees her mother, Barrymore gives the only terse answer in the interview. “No contact”, she replies.
Whip It, their 10th film together, cost about $12 million and was filmed in just 10 weeks. Before agreeing to let the perpetually tardy Barrymore direct, however, Juvonen insisted that she learn to be on time. “For years I said, ‘You need to show me you can do this,’” Juvonen recalls. “She had no parents; no one said to her, ‘These things matter.’” As the director, says Juvonen, Barrymore had to learn how to “step in as the leader, and not as the famous person who everyone says yes to. And, boy, did she ever.”

Whip It is about a 17-year-old girl (played by Ellen Page) breaking free from her mother’s small-town values to find her place as part of a roller derby team. To Barrymore, who costars as derby girl Smashley Simpson, it’s about “finding your tribe,” and another mother-daughter love story with personal resonance".

"Whip It is Drew Barrymore’s forthcoming directorial debut, due to start production in March. It’s a coming-of-age tale about a girl who finds her identity through the power of roller derby, based on Shauna Cross’ novel, Derby Girl!Drew Barrymore and Ellen Page on set of "Whip it!"A story of an ex-beauty pageant contestant (Ellen Page) that leaves her crowns behind after joining a roller derby team. In Bodeen, Texas, an indie-rock loving misfit finds a way of dealing with her small-town misery after she discovers a roller derby league in nearby Austin. Bliss Cavendar, an indie-rock loving misfit who finds a way of dealing with her small-town misery after she discovers a roller derby league in Austin, Texas. Shooting will begin in March and as long as the SAG strike doesn’t kill it, the film should be ready for early 2009 release.

Anyone thinking that the film’s title is self explanatory should know that “whip it” is a roller skating term, as in, “she’s whipping the jammer.” Man, that is fun to say. Cross, a former L.A. Derby Doll named Maggie Mayhem, says that the flick will be the first to capture the sport with “multiple cameras and great editing,” playfully adding, “It’s going to be sick, yo.” She’s like Diablo Cody…on skates!"

Donnie Darko, Blu-ray Director’s Cut (2001)

"Jake Gyllenhaal just inhabits the role of the possibly schizophrenic young man, with his hunched shoulders, odd smiles, everything. Mary McDonnell as his concerned mother is also a standout, and casting of Patrick Swayze as the motivational leader was perfect.

The story begins with Donnie as a sometimes delusional high school student who talks to a person named Frank with a demonic-looking rabbit head. Frank predicts the end of the world in 30 days after drawing Donnie outdoors at night - just prior to a jet engine mysteriously falling out of the sky into Donnie’s room where it would have killed him. Then things begin to really get confusing. Frank urges Donnie to break a water main at the school, flooding it, and later to torch the home of pushy motivational speaker Swayze. Donnie has found a book on time travel by a strange old local lady and tries to explore its meanings, but writer-director Kelly said he just brought in time travel at a comic book level, and intended it more as a deus ex machina than anything that could be analyzed (as a couple web sites do). According to the time travel framework, most of Donnie’s 30 days take place in a tangent universe rather than the present one. There are complaints that the quality of this Blu-ray release is no better than the previous standard DVD. The problem seems to be that the director used a special high speed Kodak film stock for the entire film because he liked its look. However, it is not as sharp as slower films, is more toned-down in color - and what I found most disconcerting - doesn’t have low enough black level. However, the Blu-ray version is definitely higher resolution and the soundtrack is cleaner and more immersive".

"Now that lilacs are in bloom
She has a bowl of lilacs in her room
And twists one in his fingers while she talks.
"Ah, my friend, you do not know, you do not know
What life is, you who hold it in your hands";
(Slowly twisting the lilac stalks)
"You let it flow from you, you let it flow,
And youth is cruel, and has no remorse
And smiles at situations which it cannot see."
I smile, of course,
And go on drinking tea.
"Yet with these April sunsets, that somehow recall
My buried life, and Paris in the Spring,
I feel immeasurably at peace, and find the world
To be wonderful and youthful, after all."

The Oscar will be delivered to Michelle Williams

"The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed it was preparing to send the Oscar Ledger won last month for his iconic performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight to Matilda's mother, actress Michelle Williams, who lives in Brooklyn, New York, with Matilda.

The announcement solved the mystery of who would look after the Oscar until Matilda turned 18.

Under Academy rules the deceased actor's next of kin takes ownership.

With Matilda aged just three, the Academy ruled the Oscar would have to be held until her 18th birthday.
On Oscar night Ledger's parents, Kim and Sally and sister Kate, accepted the award on stage and at a backstage media conference admitted they were not sure who would take care of the statuette until Matilda became an adult.

Kim Ledger raised the possibility it would go back to Australia.

"She can't sign for it until she's 18, so it stays in trust here or in Australia," Kim Ledger said at the press conference backstage at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre.

Academy spokesperson Leslie Unger, however, confirmed Williams, who lives in Brooklyn, New York, with Matilda would receive it.

"We expect a representative of the Ledger estate to bring the statuette in tomorrow so that the engraved plate can be affixed," Unger told the Los Angeles Times newspaper.

"Soon after that, we expect the statuette to be delivered to Michelle Williams."
