Jake and Jim Carrey in 'Yankees' musical?

"New Line Cinema is playing ball with Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal on "Damn Yankees", attaching both actors to star in a contemporized film transfer of the classic musical.

Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel are set to write the script."Damn Yankees", which bowed on Broadway in 1955 and won seven Tony Awards, focuses on Joe Boyd, a happily married middle-aged man whose devotion to a hapless pro baseball team prompts him to make a Faustian bargain with the devil to help the team. He's transformed into slugger Joe Hardy, in exchange for Boyd's soul. Boyd can break the deal, but the deadline occurs during the World Series. For good measure, the devil engages Lola, a gorgeous lost soul, to seduce the slugger and seal his fate.
The plan is for Carrey to play the devil, and Gyllenhaal to play Boyd. It's the first musical for each.

The trick is finding a balance that retains the show's classic tunes like "(You Gotta Have) Heart" and "Whatever Lola Wants", while injecting a contemporary feel on a musical that is firmly rooted in the 1950s. The intention is to get a script from Ganz and Mandel before meeting directors, and actresses who'll want to play Lola.
Gyllenhaal recently completed the David O. Russell-directed "Nailed", the Jim Sheridan-directed "Brothers," and he plays the title role in the Mike Newell-directed "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" for Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer".

Screencaps of Jake in "Blame it"

"The star-studded music video from Jamie Foxx has been released via BET on Wednesday, February 25. This would be the video of "Blame It" that features T-Pain and is lifted from his third studio album "Intuition" (2008). The video itself is another project by Hype Williams.

Foxx mainly lined up awards winners from his movie realm, such as Ron Howard, Samuel L. Jackson, Forest Whitaker and Jake Gyllenhaal. Not stopping there, cameos are also made by Quincy Jones, Cedric the Entertainer, Morris Chesnut, Clifton Powell, Alex Thomas, Tatyana Ali, Bill Bellamy, Clarence Avant, Tommy Davidson and more.

The idea of having so many stars in one music video roots from his inspiration of Notorious B.I.G. "We wanted to sort of relive the Biggie (experience)," Foxx said to MTV. "Remember when Biggie did the 'One More Chance' remix video? So, we relived that. But (we have) the most Oscar-nominated and Oscar winners in one video that you ever seen."

Strutting sport shoes

The sneak comes in two colorways, one in black, silver and yellow, and another in white and red. The shoes also feature super-reflective Puma and Speed Racer logos.

Review: ‘Day After Tomorrow’ is retro cool: Fortunately, [Emmerich] got a cast that knows what to make of lines like “This is so retro it would be cool if it were on purpose.”

That observation (so gloriously appropriate in the context of this movie) is delivered by Jake Gyllenhaal, whose snarky performance as Sam, the somewhat estranged 17-year-old son of a crack climatologist (Dennis Quaid), carries much of the picture past its absurdities. Not the least of these is dad’s heroically crazy quest to reunite with Sam, even while the world is literally falling down around them.

“Unpack the snow shoes”, he tells his loyal assistant (Dash Mihok). “We’re walking from here”. Source: www.msnbc.msn.com

Sherlock Holmes & Watson in love

"It's about to get a whole lot gayer, Watson. According to British tabloid News of the World, Sherlock Holmes, the most famous sleuth of all time, will be portrayed as a homosexual in Guy Ritchie's upcoming film.

Perhaps Robert Downey Jr., who's playing the title role, is hoping to follow in Sean Penn's footsteps by playing a homosexual and being handed the Oscar. Someone should tell him it doesn't always work that way.

In the film, Sherlock Holmes is seen sharing a bed with his beloved Dr. Watson, and also seen wrestling with a close friend. Well, the second thing doesn't seem gay at all! What could be gay about wrestling? That's just what good male friends do, when they're in the mood for a good sweaty, testosterone-fueled romp with a close buddy.
Jude Law plays Watson in the film, and explained, "Guy wanted to make this about the relationship between Watson and Holmes. They're both mean and complicated."

Law and Downey Jr. in love? If there was anyone out there that wasn't all that interested in Sherlock Holmes, the idea of seeing that weird love story play out before their eyes just might be enough to get them to the movie theater. It did wonders for Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal.

We have a feeling that the relationship between Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson is going to be a whole lot more complicated than them simply being lovers. We sense there will be an ambiguity surrounding the duo's relationship, the likes of which we haven'tseen since Bert and Ernie shared a bedroom on Sesame Street, and those hobbits kept getting all touchy-feely in "The Lord of the Rings." (Never mind. In typing that we realized that there was absolutely nothing ambiguous about the relationship between those characters)". Source: www.actressarchives.com

Maggie with Ramona in NYC

"Maggie Gyllenhaal and her 2-year-old daughter Ramona were seen arriving at Maggie’s off Broadway play Uncle Vanya in NYC on Saturday. Maggie was talking and giggling with Ramona while crossing the street and attempting to shield her from the paparazzi. Dad is fellow actor Peter Sarsgaard.

Maggie recently commented on the challenges of raising a newborn: “I’m not a leave-them-in-their-crib-to-cry kind of girl. Fundamentally, I didn’t find that worked. Everyone’s got their own thing, you know? You can’t tell another person when it’s right to stop breastfeeding, or how to put your kid to sleep. Every child is different.” Source: www.celebritybabyscoop.com

Amanda Seyfried in "Sucker Punch"?

"Is saucer-eyed MAMMA MIA cutie Amanda Seyfried up for some action with the guy behind 300 and WATCHMEN?

She will if filmmaker Zack Snyder gets his way. He's planning to commence work on his psychedelic female-fronted action flick SUCKER PUNCH later this year, and wants the up-and-coming star for one of his leads, so he admits to IESB.The movie (apparently going for a hard-R with an $85 million budget) is described as "ALICE IN WONDERLAND with machineguns", although when Snyder first announced the project a couple years back, he gave a bit more detail. The crazy fantasy is set in the 60s and "follows a girl who is confined to a mental institution by her evil stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. While there, she imagines an alternative reality to hide her from the pain, and in that world, she begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects to help get her out before she is deflowered by a vile man."The increasingly in-demand Seyfried (a long way from "VERONICA MARS" flashback victim) will be seen later this year with Megan Fox in the Diablo Cody-penned horror tale "JENNIFER'S BODY". Minorities and gayness

-What is the most important thing you learned from Milk?
-Emile Hirsch: "The film, for me, is about understanding other people, having empathy and enabling yourself to walk in another person’s shoes. To understand, as Harvey Milk said, that you have to protect the “us” out there. It’s not just the gay community. It’s the Hispanic community, the black community, the disabled community, seniors. Part of being an American is being all-inclusive. That’s the American spirit. We live in the greatest country in the world and we’re proud of it. This is just an extension of that. Being inclusive. We should not continue the exclusion of people. We’re embracing people because we’re Americans". Source: www.filter-mag.com

"Is Brokeback Mountain a gay film? An interesting question, and for all its political necessity, a somewhat irksome one--it smacks of an essentialism ill-suited to the gender-bending that queerness can inspire. But every minority group is concerned with questions of identity, and the ways in which ever-evolving answers fuel both political solidarity and individual understanding. Ennis embodies that sort of iconic, manful reticence--he's a Marlboro man whose volatile feelings are scarcely contained by his stoicism. When he does speak, his words reveal a tormented tenderness, in sharp contrast to the garrulous, breezy charm of Gyllenhaal's Jack Twist. Jack is the more psychologically accessible of the two, and he's more comfortable with the possibilities of their love. But Ennis is the scarred heart of the film--his fear turns him into a character for whom fighting and fucking often become intertwined, and whose depth of feeling can be measured in his inability to express it.

The is-this-film-gay question, then, arises out of the film's structure itself--Brokeback is preoccupied with Life, in the yawping Whitman-esque dimensions, and life, in its complexities and human attachments. It is utterly unconcerned with lifestyle, which is where Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Will & Grace, Queer As Folk, for better and worse, seem to situate gayness for mass consumption.

The film is gay and not “gay”--it is existentially gay, in its depiction of love between men, if not resonant with how gayness is usually depicted or with queerness as an evolving cultural identity". Source: www.prospect.org
