Guess girl: Amber Heard photoshoot by Ellen Von Unwerth

"WWD.com has the exclusive photos of new Guess girl Amber Heard. As previously reported by WWD, Heard stars in the fall 2011 ad campaign shot by Ellen Von Unwerth. Evoking Western films from the Fifties and Sixties, the black and white images depict Heard as a saloon singer enraptured with a lone cowboy played by Silvu Tulu.

“It’s such an iconic brand and I get to join the ranks of Claudia Schiffer, Drew Barrymore and Laetitia Casta,” said Heard, who will also be seen this fall in the new NBC drama “The Playboy Club.” “And the jeans fit me perfectly.”

Von Unwerth had a relatively easy job photographing the 25-year-old actress. “She’s tall, with an incredible figure and those green eyes. She’s got movie star quality”, Von Unwerth said.

Paul Marciano, chief executive officer and creative director for Guess Inc., is pleased with his latest pick.

Lost In Translation: The girl with the dragon tattoo, Robert Pattinson

"Although the new trailer for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is breathtaking, there seems no possible way for a studio to avoid watering down the Swedish sadomasochistic snuff noir so it will play in America. In cinema, there is the homage to the past, and there is the wholesale remake or re-imagining of a film.

There are foreign remakes of American films, but most often, foreign films are remade to sync to American sensibilities. Something will undoubtedly get lost in translation. Remaking is not an exact science". Source: www.npr.org

"Robert Pattinson gave Japan Magazine an interview for the July issue and the results, while interesting and informative, are also unintentionally funny.

Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson, co-stars in "Water for Elephants" (2011)

For example, when asked if it's true he asks his English actor friends to visit him in Los Angeles the mangled answer comes out this way: "Well, some of my friends do visit me from England while they work in LA. Many of the actors have followers just to spend couple of months together or something but my friends are different. They have pride in what they are doing, so I am sure they would say I don't need your support. It's good to have a free hotel room in NY or in LA, but in the middle of nowhere? no thanks."
Huh? The interview does break new ground with questions about how Rob travels (private jets mostly, but when he does fly commercial he puts a blanket over his head and goes to sleep) his dog (saved from a shelter his puppy went from impending death to a private jet... what's with the private jets???) and why there was no sex scene in Water For Elephants (he just laughs it off).
One wonders if Rob was having a little fun or if the skills of the translator just need brushing up. After all, Japan is the country with this sign in a hotel room: YOU ARE INVITED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE CHAMBERMAID. This interview is full of that same kind of well-intentioned hilarity". Understandably, she would have found the issue quite distractng when she's supposed to be relaxing with her rumoured new man DiCaprio, 36.

Over the past few weeks, the pair have been seen in Cannes, Monaco and Portofino - prompting speculation they are cruising the Mediterranean together. They were spotted dining at Saint Paul de Vence in the south of France last Friday, before taking a Mercedes back to a yacht docked in Cannes.
On Sunday, they were spotted hanging out with retail tycoon Sir Philip Green on his £32million Benetti superyacht Lionheart on the French Riviera". Source: www.dailymail.co.uk

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (official trailer and poster) by David Fincher

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the first film in Columbia Pictures' three-picture adaptation of Stieg Larsson's literary blockbuster The Millennium Trilogy. Directed by David Fincher and starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, the film is based on the first novel in the trilogy, which altogether have sold 50 million copies in 46 countries and become a worldwide phenomenon. The screenplay is by Steven Zaillian.

In the U.S. version, directed by David Fincher ("Seven," "Fight Club," " Zodiac"), Rooney Mara (who co-starred in Fincher's "The Social Network" last year) plays Lisbeth, the heroine of the title, while Craig plays the role of her partner/lover Mikael. In the popular 2009 Swedish version, they were played by Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist.
In the poster, Mara looks just about identical to Rapace's version of the character.
While the U.S. poster will likely be show a lot less skin, it's apparent that Hollywood hasn't toned down the sex and violence factor that helped make the suspenseful tale of vengeance, murder, sexual depravity and, ultimately, justice resonate so much with mainstream audiences.
