Water for Elephants released back one extra week

"Fans will have to endure one extra week before making it to the theater to watch their favorite Twilight star Robert Pattinson and Hollywood starlet Reese Witherspoon in the upcoming adaption of Water for Elephants now that the movie has changed its release date to April 22nd, rather than the original date of April 15th! Hoping to take advantage of the Easter holiday weekend, 20th Century Fox has bumped the drama’s premiere date. The movie surrounds “a veterinary student who abandons his studies after his parents are killed and joins a traveling circus as their vet.”
Pattinson is on board as the lead character Jacob Jankowski in the flick that was helmed by director Francis Lawrence, while Reese Witherspoon will play the role of Marlena Rosenbluth. And if that amazing duo isn’t enough to make you want to check out Water for Elephants, maybe a supporting cast of Christoph Waltz (Witherspoon’s on screen husband), James Frain and Paul Schneider, could make you change your mind. It sounds as though the recent release date change may have some fans agitated, but sales at the box office sounds pretty promising with all involved on the project that has been adapted from the novel of writer Sara Gruen". Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart chosen Best Couple of 2010

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson attending Eclipse - LA Convention (June 2010)

"Twilight actors Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were named this year's Best Couple according to MTV. Pattinson and Stewart were easily the top choice, beating married Katy Perry and Russell Brand, Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift, and Chelsea Handler and 50 Cent.
Pattinson's frequent visits to Kristen's non-Twilight film On the Road also raised eyebrows as reports say that Pattinson was jealous of Stewart's co-star Viggo Mortenssen. A gritty photograph showing Kristen and Robert kissing also surfaced on the Intenet this year, further creating buzz around the couple's romance over which the two actors remained mum.

"It doesn't matter how many times I've spoken to someone or how well they know me, I'm just not going to talk about that," said Kristen in an interview.
This year also had the media following Kristen and Robert as they shoot for Breaking Dawn Part 1 & Part 2, the final films in the Twilight Saga. While in Brazil, the two were reportedly found by authorities kissing on the beach. The two were filming in the country for their honeymoon in the fictional Isle Esme.
Pattinson and Stewart were also named Hollywood's most stylish couple which proves that being named as 2010's Best Couple may just be the icing on the cake". Source: hken.ibtimes.com

Cozy places, warm clothes, heat at hand

Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston as John and Jennifer Grogan in "Marley and Me" (2008)
"Granny fashion is definitely in this year. Cable knit, oversized, warm and snuggly jumpers and cardigans are a comfy-clothes lover's dream. Paired with skinny jeans or a dress and tights, this relaxed and dressed down look was seen a lot on the Fall/Winter catwalks.Katherine Heigl is renowned for her love of a chunky cardigan and stylists for Jennifer Aniston's new film Wanderlust had her wrapped-up warm on the Los Angeles set in a long grey knit jacket with pockets". "A longtime knitter, she fantasized about a cozy spot where knitting was the backdrop and visitors could take it from there. When she opened Knit Cafe, little did she realize it would become a pit stop for some of the town's grooviest players. Many of the folks who write and produce the television shows ''Friends'' and ''The Gilmore Girls'' are regulars. Clients of Ms. Hershberger's salon sidle in through the back door -- sometimes with foil and chemicals in their hair. Which perhaps helps explain why, whether you are packing chenille or Baby Cashmerino, knitting at Knit Cafe feels hip. Ms. Greer, who visits daily when she is not out of town on a movie set, may have something to do with that. The actress -- knowing the mousy stigma that can attach to those who make their own woolen goods -- has come up with a rule about knitting in public. ''You can do it, but only if you look really hot'', she said". Source: www.nytimes.com

If you warm your hands by holding a cup of hot coffee, you will have “warmer” thoughts about the people you meet. Even more importantly, you can train your hands (and other parts of your body) to become warm and/or relaxed with people.

"One of the effects of global warming in the sci-fi film is a totally ice-packed New York City and 20th Century Fox thought we warm West Coast journalists deserved a little taste of a what the East Coast has been suffering. Not too sure what to expect, I pull up and wonder why there is an urn of hot chocolate outside on a table. Jake pulls up in a Mercedes wearing a short-sleeved white tee and asks. "Do you think I'll need a sweater?". Uh, yeah, think so, Jake. The actor was given a long-sleeved sweatshirt and a heavy parka.

Me, my big fur-lined coat and hot chocolate joined Jake and others inside a huge icebox room like a meat locker without the meat, where a big block of ice will act as the screen. We sit on carved blocks of ice topped with some anti-slip material and Jake stands up and looks around.

Merry Christmas In a Lonely Place

Humphrey Bogart with Lauren Bacall and son Stephen on Christmas Eve in their Beverly Hills home, 1951. Humphrey Bogart was born on 25th December, 1899 in New York City (Happy anniversary, Bogie!)

"It is unlikely Bogart was ever more frightening, and he doesn’t even touch a gun. Nor was he ever so pathetic, so vulnerable, so damaged. His Dixon Steele lashes out at the universe for the success it took from him, and for the wisdom and sensitivity it refuses to recognize—primarily because he is so quick to temper with those he can’t stand, which is most of the world. In other words, Dix is Nicholas Ray.

Maybe even more impressive is the bringing to life of Gloria Grahame. A wooden and catty actress in her 40s work, In a Lonely Place is her greatest performance, rivaled only by her turn in Minnelli’s The Cobweb. Laurel Gray is calm, composed, collected. Grahame jams her hands in the pockets of her skirt, or knowingly half-smiles at Bogart in a manner suggestive of someone who is as comfortable as she is controlled. Every facial movement is precise and meaningful. Laurel Gray is a failed actress, and like all great Ray protagonists, acutely aware of her own failures.

Dix is an outsider, a man not meant to travel in the comforts of normal society. Unlike Ray’s other protagonists, however, his individuality destroys him. Rather than define his strengths, that marginalization is his greatest weakness. He and Laurel’s loneliness is quelled by their union for only 16 of the film’s 93-minute running time. Their isolation is too powerful to keep them together. In a way, from how she keeps Dix at a distance, and how she faintly wishes their love could have lasted, Laurel knows their fate from the beginning". Source: mubi.com

My favorite films of Bogart are "In a lonely place", "The Big Sleep" and "Casablanca". If I choose "In a lonely place" (based on a novel by Dorothy B. Hughes that dealt with misogyny written in 1947) is because Dix Steele is in my opinion his most brilliant and devastatingly humane performance. Although John Huston was Bogart's best comrade among all the filmmakers with whom he'd work, Nicholas Ray is behind the camera the poet of love (he was called by François Truffaut "the poet of nightfall", Jean-Luc Godard said even more, identifying Ray with the cinema itself: "the cinema is Nicholas Ray"), and some critics think that Ray was capable of tapping into Bogart's personal anguish, deep disillusionment, moral dilemmas and his own Hollywood image which he'd created time ago.

Being Bogart and Ray second colaboration, the film also reflected indirectly the humilliation Bogart had suffered in the anti-communist hearings by the HUAC. As Dix, a once-glorious, now-struggling screenwriter, he stands for the contradictions he'd faced throughout his career and his fear of loneliness, of not controlling the outer reality and his worst impulses, and Gloria Grahame is Laurel (she was Ray’s wife at the time), a failed actress, the woman who loves him for the decent, intelligent man who really is beneath that terrifying façade of cynicism. One of the themes that Ray perfects echoes in the film is the societal pressure and its fatal consequences over sensitive, dislocated souls as Dix and Laurel.

The dialogue is incredible: "I make it a point never to see pictures I write", "There's no sacrifice too great for a chance at immortality" an specially "I was born when you kissed me. I died when you left me. I lived a few weeks while you loved me."

Bogart plays an antihero who drinks too much, who can love but cannot connect and who is capable of dismantling the false values of the film industry itself. Louise Brooks wrote in her essay "Humphrey and Bogie": "he played one fascinatingly complex character, craftily directed by Nicholas Ray, in a film whose title perfectly defined Bogart's own isolation among people. That film was In a Lonely Place. It gave him a role that he could play with complexity, because the film character's pride in his art, his selfishness, drunkeness, lack of energy stabbed with lightening strokes of violence were shared by the real Bogart."
