Tobey Maguire was not in Brokeback Mountain!

Tobey Maguire with Jim Sheridan at "Brothers" NY screening, on November 22, 2009.

"Maguire learned about the toll war takes on families and what he's doing to find a new direction in his life. What surprised him about the military.
"I went to Camp Pendleton near L.A. and shared time with soldiers and went through some basic training. I have so much respect for them for putting their lives on the line. But, I was also just amazed at the camaraderie, the brotherhood and sisterhood and that sort of unique perspective on the world that they share with each other. It creates a really intense familial bond."
Trying to connect with a troubled dad.
"My character is a lot more at home with his military family than he is with his wife and kids, which is not the way I try to be. It was really heartbreaking to think about how people take things out on the ones they love, especially children who are so full of love and so fragile. That resonated with me as a father. I had some scenes where I did things to create havoc in the lives of my wife and children that I could never imagine doing."
Jake Gyllenhaal as the gay cowboy in "Brokeback Mountain".

He was not in Brokeback Mountain."I've been mistaken for so many different actors, it's just wild. I've gotten Jake Gyllenhaal a few times like, 'Loved you in Brokeback Mountain'. I've had that. I can't remember all of them, but Wes Bentley, tons of times, and Elijah Wood. When people ask me for my autograph and say, 'Oh, you were so great in such and such,' which I wasn't in, then I usually just sign the other actor's name and say, 'Thank you very much.'

"The snowy environs of Park City, Utah, will play host next month to the battle of It girls past and present when Natalie Portman and Kristen Stewart show up to support their latest indie projects, both of which will be screened in competition at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.Stewart, who, like Portman, has done the indie-to-blockbuster thing, made a splash on the fashion circuit and weathered the storm of a questionable haircut, is starring in Welcome to the Rileys with James Gandolfini, whose bereaved father meets Stewart's 19-year-old stripper while on a business trip and promptly sets out to save her". Peter Sarsgaard's stillness is admired by Jake

Peter Sarsgaard and Jake Gyllenhaal - "InStyle" magazine photoshoot, 2007.

"We spoke with GYLLENHAAL recently about the film and he talked about playing the role quietly and not going over the top. The actor tells us that he greatly admires other actors who are able to play “still” and cites PETER SARSGAARD (his sister, MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL’s, husband) as one of them. Listen (and download) it

5 tracks Jake enjoys listening to

Naomi Foner & Stephen Gyllenhaal with their son Jake Gyllenhaal.

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal was heavily influenced by his parents’ musical tastes and repaid the favor with a Guest DJ set dedicated entirely to family – from the folk song that his dad sang him to sleep to the live track that makes him sob on set. He also puts his performer hat on, with a host of great imitations – including a few of Director Jim Sheridan, who directed him in the new film “Brothers”.

Tracks chosen by Jake:

1.) Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band - The River (Live)
2.) Burl Ives - The Fox
3.) Danny Kaye - Inchworm
4.) Saint-Saƫns - Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso
5.) Loudon Wainwright III - A Father and a Son

"Brothers": terrific suspense

Brothers Movie Sneak Peak Starring Natalie Portman THIS VIDEO AUTHORIZED TO US AND PROVIDED TO US COURTESY Lions Gate Films Inc

"By dramatizing Sam's ordeal, Sheridan robs it of the potency it would have if we were forced to imagine it. Instead, as Sam tries to return to normal life, he's a stereotypical time bomb on a short fuse, because we know his horrible secret. There's no question that he'll do something that potentially puts all of their lives in danger -- it's just a question of when. He's so twisted up that, having betrayed his own ideals under threat of death, he assumes everyone else is betraying him, too.The suspense of the scenes with him, Portman and Gyllenhaal is terrific. Though both Tommy and Grace deny it, Sam is convinced they have cheated on him -- if they aren't still. The three actors give genuinely thoughtful performances, as the script allows". "Brothers" stills, reviews + behind the scenes

"Gyllenhaal admits that he was very challenged by the script (“Brothers” is a remake of the Danish language film “Brodre,” this time directed by an Irishman).“Just coming from Ireland it was interesting how Jim thought my character would act compared to my own American take,” Gyllenhaal says. “There’s a moment in the film when Natalie’s character tells mine that my brother is dead, and Jim suggested I fall on the ground and make snow angels. I said to him very quietly I don’t know if an American would react like that.”For Maguire, the decision to get involved in “Brothers” was down to the strength of the script and the talent involved.

“I wanted to do a film that shines a light on a subject that we don’t really talk enough about,” he says.
“My character is all buttoned up and quiet about his war experiences. I think he doesn’t relate that well to his wife and children, and I think he’s living a facsimile of a life. He’s much more at home with his military family and much more comfortable at war. And it’s killing him.” Source: www.irishcentral.com

"It's there in one early scene, as the Cahill family sits down to a tense dinner. One brother — Gyllenhaal's Tommy — is just out of prison (and we don't find out for a long time why he was there). The other — Maguire's Sam, a Marine captain — is off to Afghanistan again, and eager for it. Once there, he ponders how it "almost feels like home." Portman, as Sam's wife Grace, is the anchor who keeps the family in place: her small daughters, Isabelle (Bailee Madison) and Maggie (Taylor Geare); her father-in-law Hank (Sam Shepard), an ex-Marine himself; and her mother-in-law Elsie (Mare Winningham).
