Flower-Power: Christina Ricci, Jake Gyllenhaal

"As we wrap up lunch and head out for a little shopping at Ricci's favorite area store, Lake boutique on Rowena, the conversation moves back to her upcoming role as Trixie in Speed Racer. And out comes one of the first urgently effusive comments of the afternoon: "It was honestly the most fun I have had making any movie, pretty much ever."

"She loved her fellow cast mates, Matthew Fox, Emile Hirsch and Australian newcomer Kick Gurry ("He can take a punch"); eccentric writing/directing brother team of Larry and Andy Wachowski ("I was like their dress-up doll"); doing her own stunts ("I learned to pick up a gun in mid-cartwheel on the second take, I basically have no more ambition in life"). But her favorite thing? The outfits, of course. Based on the 1960s Japanime series created by Tatsuo Yoshida, the Wachowski brothers brought their futuristic/fetishistic aesthetic that they perfected making the Matrix series to this hyper-real live action film". Bella and Jacob in "New Moon"

It starts with Edward's POV and then it becomes Bella's POV...
E! Daily 10 reveals how the break up scene in New Moon affected Kristen Stewart.

"Being on Team Edward was so Twilight. Thirty pounds of pure muscle, a dynamite story arc, and a handful of cast mates behind him, has everyone screaming Team Jacob lately. Sorry Edward, we all still lust after you, but as more and more information leaks on New Moon many fans are switching teams. The gradual switch began when Taylor Lautner first flashed his draw dropping abs last winter, prompting a gaggle of new adoring fans. "Get ready for a lot of heartbreak. When I was reading the books, I felt very bad for Jacob’s character. But now, I actually lived his character, I feel so much worse", says Lautner about his reactions to reading The Twilight Saga. Team Jacob is ready to heal his broken heart and over the past months the support for Jake has been incredible; some might even forget that Edward is in the film". Source: news.popstar.com

Heath Ledger impressed Christopher Plummer

"Plummer has projects of passion. Like when he finally played Prospero on stage and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which reunited him with Terry Gilliam."He's always been slightly guilty of putting too many characters in his movies and too many subplots and then you can't find the people that you want to root for, the people you're supposed to be watching. And in this one, he didn't. I think he's captured the Gilliam magic again."

In turn, a slightly breathless Gilliam admits: “I was so delighted Christopher said yes".
“Parnassus is like Prospero in The Tempest; it's like King Lear. It's got this range. Parnassus is a man with incredible dignity and believability but I always suspected he was lying through the whole thing. I think that's why he liked Tony [Heath Ledger], as he could identify with him as a young man”."Filming around old London lent an authenticity to the production but it wasn't easy", Plummer says.

“We all came down with pneumonia, including Heath, but at least I was wearing huge robes. Heath was in this thin shirt".
"We would shoot from 10 o'clock or midnight, when all the damp gets in. It didn't help Heath at all.”Ledger impressed the veteran of the stage and screen.

“Heath was quite courageous for someone that young. He was bright; he didn't care about the money. He just wanted to do something because it was interesting and it would stretch him and make him more versatile as an actor.”

Vampires, bloodlust in motion

"Dune fans blanched at the rumors that sparkly Twilight vampire Robert Pattinson would somehow appear in Peter Berg's contemplated adaptation of Frank Herbert's epic SF novel.

Well, drive a stake into those reports. Zap2It cites unnamed sources as saying they're not true. What is true is that Pattinson is set to star in a version of Guy de Maupassant's 1885 novel Bel Ami. He'll play amoral journalist Georges Duroy, who uses his harem of mistresses to move up the social and professional ladders.

"Being labeled "The Next Big Thing" in Hollywood when you're still a teenager is hard to live up to. Just ask Salt Lake native Patrick Fugit. He received rave reviews for his performance in "Almost Famous" as an aspiring young music journalist. But it was his co-star Kate Hudson who went on to movie stardom. And other co-stars, like Jason Lee and Philip Seymour Hoffman, went on to bigger things. But after "Almost Famous", it took Fugit five years to find another major role that he felt was as good.Shannyn Sossamon, Patrick Fugit and Leslie Bibb at the Hollywood premiere Of 'Wristcutters: A Love Story' on 9th October 2007."That is until "Wristcutters: A Love Story" came along.Patrick Fugit, guitar & singer in "Mushman", photo by Stacee Sadler.

"With his friends in Salt Lake City, where he still resides, Fugit formed the band Mushman, a name he got from the 1971 motorcycling doc On Any Sunday. He plays guitar, although the 24-year-old laughs at the suggestion that music could be his way of paying rent. Since Almost Famous Fugit has blossomed as a movie talent and as a man-if looks could kill he'd be presiding over a morgue. His choice of movie parts has been particularly fascinating, since he's avoided big-budget studio work entirely in favor of roles that have mattered to him. Offbeat and quirky stuff like The Good Life and Saved are his bag".

"Leaving an early screening of Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant this week, I heard an amazed teenage girl say to her companions, "It's, like, a vampire movie, but it's funny!" As if such a thing weren't possible. But then, the average teen was in kindergarten when Buffy was in its prime, and 80's movies like Fright Night and Once Bitten are ancient history. Funny vampires?! Who knew?As Peter Hall says in his excellent Cinematical review of Cirque, it's a shame that this particular movie feels as if it were rushed out to take advantage of the current Twilight and True Blood fueled vamp renaissance. If you think it's a stretch that Cirque's being marketed to the sparkly-vampire crowd, check out the design of one of the posters (above). Wow ... it's totally Robert Pattinson! Except that it's not". Source: www.cinematical.com

"Varèse Sarabande has announced two score albums due for release on October 20. The first one is Stephen Trask’s “darkly adventurous but fun” score for The Vampire’s Assistant (aka Cirque du Freak), from the upcoming Universal Pictures release starring Chris Massoglia, John C. Reilly and Salma Hayek. Trask, a composer who is best known for music to more intimate films such as The Station Agent, In Good Company and last year’s Sex Drive, recorded his score earlier this year at the Newman Scoring Stage at 20th Century Fox. Interstingly, Trask worked with several of Danny Elfman’s team members on this big orchestral score, among them conductor Pete Anthony, orchestrators Edgardo Simone and Darren McKenzie". "Warpaint has become a favourite of in-the-know Hollywood hipsters, but it turns out that the Los Angeles–based quartet has a strong connection to Hollywood North. The band's original drummer, Shannyn Sossamon, is a film and television actor best known for her roles in the features A Knight's Tale and One Missed Call and the vampire series Moonlight". Robert Pattinson has been chosen sexiest or hottest male symbol many times over. In his favour, I have to admit that his Edward Cullen isn't only this hollow-cheeked, ultrapale and baleful vampire that dwells in ill-omened scenaries but my heart doesn't go pitapat when I see Mr. Pattinson, I think his overexposure is rather off-putting.

Patrick Fugit plays homosexual Corey in "Horsemen" (2009).

On the other hand, Patrick Fugit is still one of my best crushes, I think Pat is unfairly underrated at this point but I've never gone off him or his roles, I keep enamoured of his leaden-eyed, good-natured characters and "Wristcutters" is one of my favourite films. Some weeks ago, I talked to one of his friends and she interviewed Patrick and gave me back his answers to my questions. He's still living in Salt Lake City, Utah. He even checked out my videos in Youtube. He thought they were great. Patrick also said that "Cirque du Freak was different because I was painted green and I had a real snake around my neck and it was a little scary for me". With reference to my question of if he will continue doing more dark/indie roles in the future, Patrick replied "I would like to but if not I'm ready for more different roles".
