Cinematical's Early Picks for Best Actor 2010

“Love & Other Drugs”, directed by Edward Zwick
"This re-teaming of Venice/Toronto premiere “Brokeback Mountain”‘s not-quite-couple Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway is based on Jamie Reidy’s memoir “Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman.” Gyllenhaal plays said Viagra salesman, who meets and falls in love with Hathaway’s character—who has Parkinson’s Disease (cue Oscar buzz). The film’s trailer has proven quite popular and buzz is already quite high. But 20th Century Fox decided to keep audiences away from “Drugs” until its November release (unless it pops up somewhere else, though that seems doubtful)". Source: www.indiewire.com

Jake Gyllenhaal in Leadville Trail 100 Mile Run on August 22, 2010 (c) Jerell Klaver and Brandon Fuller

"There's a young and cocky Viagra salesman (Jake Gyllenhaal, Love and Other Drugs), a young and cocky internet pioneer (Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network), as well as the young and confused (Andrew Garfield, Never Let Me Go & Keir Gilchrist, It's Kind of a Funny Story). Real-life leftovers from the Dubya years in Jack Abramoff (Kevin Spacey, Casino Jack) and Joe Wilson (Sean Penn, Fair Game). Rebecca Hall and Ben Affleck as Doug MacRay and Claire in "The Town" (2010)

Killers both fictional (George Clooney, The American & Ben Affleck, The Town) as well as real and potentially innocent (Sam Rockwell, Conviction). And then trailers that are practically the first step to highlighting eventual Oscar campaigns (Jim Broadbent, Another Year; Stephen Dorff, Somewhere; John Malkovich, Secretariat)
Who will go lead and who will go supporting will factor in later as well and we're still waiting to get our first looks at Jeff Bridges (True Grit), Matt Damon (Hereafter), Johnny Depp (The Tourist), Colin Firth (The King's Speech), James Franco (127 Hours) and Christian Bale & Mark Wahlberg in The Fighter. Some we'll be seeing in full in Toronto next month, where I will also catch up with Ryan Gosling in Blue Valentine. Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling as Cindy and Dean in "Blue Valentine" (2010)

Lindsay Lohan released from rehab to make outpatient therapy

Lindsay Lohan will play troubled pornstarn Linda Lovelace in "Inferno" directed by Matthew Wilder

-What were your initial meetings with her like?
-Matthew Wilder: Lovely. My sense was of someone very shy. Very, very soulful. Someone who has a lot of feelings that just spill out very easily. What I remember most from that first meeting was that I ended it by doing this kind of jive handshake and she said, "You're so ghetto, I love you." Very sweet.
Lindsay Lohan in "Machete" photoshoot

-Since so many people form an image of Lohan from her tabloid appearances, what sorts of things would you want people to know about her from your working relationship so far?
I think she is a giant. And I think time and movies will bear that out. As someone who has marinated in seventies movies all his life, I think I can say Lindsay has a quality that you see in the great actresses of that period--Sissy Spacek, Shelley Duvall, Tuesday Weld.Tuesday Weld Some of the grit of Linda Haynes or Linda Manz. A feeling of life that has been lived, and a really expressive instrument. Just bookmark these words, time and movies will show, in ten years, someone who is really at the top of her game. She will be around when a lot of the little cupcakes who are flavors-of-the-month right now are gone". Source: projectorhasbeendrinking.blogspot.com

Lindsay Lohan Behind The Scenes 'Cameo Stars' Commercial

"Lindsay Lohan was released from the UCLA Medical Center Tuesday night after spending 23 days in the court-mandated rehabilitation center.

Judge Marsha Revel originally ordered Lohan to serve 90 days in the center, but according to TMZ, doctors "felt Lindsay should be released from the facility immediately."

Revel is no longer a part of the Lohan case, and a new probation status hearing is scheduled for Wednesday; Lohan is not required to attend.
The medical report from UCLA shows that the actress was misdiagnosed as having Attention Deficit Disorder and was given Adderall; the report also shows that Lohan was not addicted to cocaine as previously suspected."

Ben Stiller in Ratner's 'Tower Heist' - Heist movies

Nicholas Cage and Tea Leoni in "Family Man" (2000) directed by Brett Ratner

"It’s been almost four years since Brett Ratner first announced his intention to direct Tower Heist, and now it looks like the film will finally come together in November, with Ben Stiller definitely locked in to star.

Ben Stiller as Larry Daley in "Night at the Museum" (2006)

And, of course, Stiller is now the star, with the story focused on his character, an overworked manager in a luxury apartment/office building who, along with several other staff members see their pensions vanish thanks to a Wall Street huckster. But when they learn the crook is being held under house arrest in a luxury unit in their very building, their revenge takes the form of a heist.

Ratner explained the process of honing the script to Deadline: “It has become the quintessential New York heist movie, where a bunch of blue collar employees in a tower building pull off the ultimate heist. I brought the script to Ben on the Little Fockers set, and said this is perfect for you. He was looking at other projects like Mr Popper's Penguins, I asked Noah Baumbach to do some specific character work for Ben.”

"War is a hell that's contagious. That's the theme running through this tale of a family nearly ripped apart by the Afghanistan conflict. But deft acting—hello Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman—saves the flick from wallowing too deeply into melodrama.
Jake Gyllenhaal as Tommy Cahill in "Brothers" (2009)

The Bigger Picture: Things are already pretty shaky for the Cahill family; Tommy (Gyllenhaal) is a loser who's done time for a bank heist, Sam (Maguire) is a Marine whose pants are so tightly creased he's more at home with his fellow soldiers than with his wife and kids, and their dad (Sam Shepard) never got over his tour in Vietnam."

Love and other drugs: drug abuse and viagra

Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway in "Love and Other Drugs" (2010)

"Some 5% of Americans over age 50 admit to abusing drugs, according to a new government study.

Researchers believe the number of people born between 1946 and 1964 who seek drug abuse treatment will double by 2020, straining an under-prepared system.

"We need much better support services for the number of older adults who are going to have substance abuse problems," said Dr. Gary Kennedy, director of Geriatric Psychiatry at Montefiore Medical Center.
Robert Downey Jr. (has played drug addict Julian Wells in the movie Less Than Zero, and ex-addict in real life)

There's a pattern of older adults mellowing out of illicit drug use and transitioning into prescription and alcohol abuse, Kennedy said. He's seen baby boomers abusing everything from painkillers like Valium to stimulants like Dexedrine."

"Dr Reddy is the chairman of Council of Sex Education and Parenthood International (CSEPI) and Indian Andropause Society. He believes that “a day will come when we will say, ‘Viagra pill a day will keep the cardiologist away’”.

“The pendulum has swung from one extreme to another — from treating sexual medicine as an ‘unnecessary luxury’ or ‘frivolous’ to considering it a mainstream health issue”, said Dr Reddy.
Since its advent and approval, in 1998, Viagra has helped combat male impotence. The treatment has been used by millions of men, worldwide, and has helped them to achieve better sex lives. It is now possible to buy Viagra online, and the treatment has become universally accepted as a way to overcome erection problems.

“Viagra has made a huge impact on the society. The medical fraternity’s perception about sexuality has changed”, concluded Dr Reddy. Source: www.healthexpress.co.uk

Maggie Gyllenhaal

"Maggie Gyllenhaal to star in Victorian vibrator drama. She’ll appear opposite Rupert Everett and Hugh Dancy in Hysteria, a romantic comedy about the London doctors who began treating “hysteria” (”a woman’s irritability, anger or unexplained tears”) with their new electrical device (replacing the previous treatment, a hearty throttling). Before they could market it, the two would have to withstand a public smear campaign from Thomas Edison, who tried to demonstrate that their product was dangerous by vibrating to death an elephant’s vagina".
