Jennifer Lawrence, The Hunger Games, Floral Motifs, skill games

"That’s because in the past year, this Louisville, Ky. native, has quickly rocketed from under-the-radar indie actress to movie industry It Girl.
First she earned an Academy Award nomination for her turn as a steely teen in “Winter’s Bone”. Then she took on the role of young shape-shifter Mystique (non-mutant name: Raven Darkholme) in “X-Men: First Class,”her first attempt at blockbuster fare, which arrives in theaters Friday. And now Lawrence is playing her buzziest role to date: the teen warrior Katniss Everdeen in the adaptation of the popular post-apocalyptic young-adult book series “The Hunger Games” which is currently shooting in Wilmington, N.C.
“The Hunger Games” fan fervor has made her the subject of intense Internet chatter and also recently landed her on the cover of Entertainment Weekly. So how is Lawrence handling all of the sudden attention?
-Did you feel like “X-Men” had gotten you into the physical shape you needed to be in for “The Hunger Games” or did you have to go through a different regimen?
Lawrence: I had to go through a different regimen. For “X-Men” I was lifting a lot of weights. I actually lost a lot of mass when I quit “X-Men” because I was working out so much and very muscular and strong. With “Hunger Games,” I need to be smaller and thinner. I do need to be as strong, but my character’s younger. Strong arms are something that comes with age, so that had to be taken down a little bit". Source: www.washingtonpost.com

Jennifer Lawrence’s is no run-of-the-mill Hollywood ingénue. Part Renee Zellweger, part Jodie Foster, part Tina Fey, there’s something special about her. Pretty as a picture, Jennifer Lawrence struck poses in mix ‘n’ match floral prints and in flowing nude Rochas gown for Marie Claire UK magazine, July 2011 issue.

Bear Grylls Reveals ‘Man Vs. Wild’ Adventure with Jake Gyllenhaal, "Now You See Me"

"Presently, Bear is gearing up for more “Man vs. Wild” on Discovery, and he confirmed that one of the upcoming episodes would feature a fellow in-shape star – Jake Gyllenhaal.

“He trains hard as well, you know. He’s meant to be the fittest man in Hollywood so I was a little bit nervous taking him on a ‘Man vs. Wild,’ but he was incredible,” Bear said of the episode, which is currently being kept under wraps. While the reality star wasn’t able to reveal where he went with Jake – rumors on the web suggest it was to Iceland – he did admit it was a tough adventure.

Jesse Eisenberg in "30 Minutes or Less" (2011)

"According to Variety Leterrier is working to cast Jesse Eisenberg, Jake Gyllenhaal and Melanie Laurent in Now You See Me, a heist film about magicians who "pull off daring bank heists during their performances, showering the profits on their audience."Yeah, I have no idea how that would work either, but the idea of seeing Jesse Eisenberg trying to do it is so bizarre I can't help but want to see it.

Mélanie Laurent as Soshanna in "Inglorious Basterds" (2009)

Eisenberg is only in early negotiations for the lead part, while Gyllenhaal and Laurent only have offers, which they could easily turn down. When we first wrote about his project back in February we had heard that the central characters would in fact be the FBI investigators tracking down the rogue magicians, which means we'll probably see Eisenberg only solving crimes, not pulling a rabbit plus 50 gold bars out of a hat. Disappointing? Sure. But it sounds like there will be plenty more craziness to be entertained by in the movie, which Leterrier has planned as his post-Titans film.

While Gyllenhaal has been known to seek out these kind of action-y roles, and Laurent is so new in her career no choice could be seen as unexpected, Eisenberg seems to be really stretching here". Source: www.cinemablend.com

Emma Stone: Blonde Riot Girl

Emma Stone in Elle magazine, July 2011

On not being recognized as easily in public with her new look:
Anna Faris and Emma Stone in "The House Bunny" (2008)

“I mean, I haven’t been around very long. I can’t expect everyone to have seen The House Bunny. Oh God. I am having such waves of internal embarrassment, which now I’m admitting on a tape recorder. This is so one of the things I should keep in my head.”

On how her career has grown: “These past two years, I’ve stopped having to remind myself to be present, which has been the greatest gift. Because I know it’s so fleeting. I’ll kick my ass later on if I don’t enjoy it right now. But it does make you realize that so much of the joy of it is the journey. The struggle is such a lovely part of it.” Source: www.elle.com

Nina Menkes's DISSOLUTION- TRAILER April 2011

Nina Menkes's DISSOLUTION- TRAILER April 2011
for more info please see www.ninamenkes.com

“A sensory revelation” –Mark Peranson, Vancouver International Film Festival
"Didi Fire's performance is brilliant… Menkes's unclassifiable cinema, whose fascination lies in the interplay among characters, space, and filmmaker, is truly all her own. Extraordinary and original!"
--Chris Fujiwara, Boston Phoenix

"One of the year's top five films" - Barbara Wurm, Sight and Sound
“Dazzling!...A kind of existential film noir, rich in evocative imagery--its inspired, confounding final moments are as astonishing as they are precise.” – Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times

"In the 25 years since her first feature, Magdalena Viraga, Nina Menkes has remained one of the few American directors working at feature length whose films — in both form and thought — are genuinely radical. Menkes' main preoccupation across her six films (including Phantom Love and her latest work, Dissolution, which screen at the Downtown Independent this week) is violence in all its forms, and her approach, oblique yet intuitive, has yielded results that have more to say on the subject than any American director since Peckinpah or Cassavetes." - Phil Coldiron, LA Weekly

Some of the Sexiest High School Outcasts in Film

Emilio Estevez and Ally Sheedy as Andrew Clark and Allison Reynolds in "The Breakfast Club"

Allison Reynolds, The Breakfast Club (1985) Played By: Ally Sheedy

To the credit of John Hughes and Ally Sheedy, Allison Reynolds is one of the most believable loners on this list. In spite of her model looks, the actresses's matted hair, random outbursts and habit of attending detention at-will made her a convincing basket case.

Boy in Police Station, Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) Played By: Charlie Sheen

Even with his Adonis DNA (his words, not Movieline's), Charlie Sheen nailed his role as the wise police station drug addict in this '80s classic. Credit the intense stare, shifty eyes, and general Charlie Sheen-ness. Whatever he did with Jennifer Grey off-set is another matter entirely (Sheen said the first star he ever slept with was Dirty Dancing's Jennifer Grey).

Heath Ledger kissing Julia Stiles (Patrick Verona and Kat Stratford) in "10 Things I Hate About You" (1999)

Patrick Verona, 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) Played By: Heath Ledger

Heath Ledger may have been beautiful, but his 10 Things I Hate About You character was a gruff, angsty teenager who smoked in pool halls and made money off of dating other outcasts. As such, he qualifies as one of the sexiest loners on this list.

Donnie Darko, Donnie Darko (2001) Played By: Jake Gyllenhaal

Unlike most of the characters on this list, Jake Gyllenhaal's disturbed Donnie Darko legitimately earned his loner status, as does anyone else who has visions of demonic rabbits.

Christian Slater and Winona Ryder as J.D. and Veronica in "Heathers"

J.D., Heathers (1988) Played By: Christian Slater

As most high school films featuring attractive outsiders tend to do, Heathers justified that the attractive J.D. was an outsider because he was new to town. Unlike other high school films, J.D. perpetuated his outsiderness by pulling guns on classmates and feeding his peers drain cleaner.

Cady Heron, Mean Girls (2004) Played By: Lindsay Lohan

In spite of her good looks, Cady Heron does not fit in because she was homeschooled in Africa by her zoologist parents. But because of those same looks, she is also able to infiltrate the popular clique by forfeiting her own values and putting together a slutty Halloween costume.

Olive Penderghast, Easy A (2010) Played By: Emma Stone

Our favorite kind of outcast on this list, Emma Stone's Olive Penderghast learns to embrace her new status as the school "skank" and is (almost) completely unconcerned about her peers' perception of her. Source: www.movieline.com
