Remembering Kurt Cobain

"Wanting to be somebody else is a waste of the person you are."
"It's better to be hated for what you are, than loved for what you are not." - Kurt Cobain.

Kurt Cobain commited suicide on this day in 1994.

Kurt Cobain, who shot himself 16 years ago yesterday, at the age of 27, so bow your head in reverence, was a prolific musician, and not just when he formed his iconoclastic band Nirvana. This fact was proven when 30 tracks, recorded on cassettes, were unearthed and then purchased at a garage sale in Washington state. Quick, someone call Courtney Love. Honestly, she has probably already unleashed the dogs (ahem, her lawyers) on the poor chap! Apparently, the initials "KDC " were inscribed on the tapes with black marker. The man who bought the tapes retained a lawyer, contacted Cobain’s estate and his record label and the tapes were verified as being from Cobain. For those keeping score at home, "KDC " stands for "Kurt Donald Cobain."
Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of Kurt Cobain.

The fine folks at NPR have theorized that the tapes were recorded before Cobain even hit double digits in age, since some of the titles reference the years 1974 and 1975. There is even a ukulele version of "The Joker", the famed Steve Miller band anthem2.
