Is it me or Catherine Keener looks exactly like Mary Steenburgen (Joan's mom)? its uncanny.

I haven't thought of it before, but now you bring it out, I seen a lot of resemblance between Catherine and Mary Steenburgen -she's the mother of actress Lilly McDowell

Oh I meant "Joan of Arcadia" (My favorite show of all after Buffy and before BSG), I didn't know about Lilly.

yes, Mary Steenburgen played Helen Girardi the mother in Joan of Arcadia series and Amber Tamblyn player her daughter Joan. I only saw a few episodes, but it was a show with substance that was cancelled by CBS in 2005.
