"After cutting himself loose from the big-screen remake of Footloose, could Zac Efron be eyeing the Rock of Ages movie? According to the New York Daily News, the High School Musical alum is rumored to be up for the lead in a feature film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical—and he’s supposedly competing with Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal. 
The Oscar-nominated Gyllenhaal is already attached to another movie musical; he’s reportedly playing Joe Hardy opposite Jim Carrey’s Devil in Craig Zadan and Neil Meron’s Damn Yankees remake. Patrick Wilson’s name has also been bandied about for the role of Stacee Jaxx, currently played by James Carpinello. (Efron and Gyllenhaal would presumably be in line to play the hero Drew, created by Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis.)The ROA movie will be helmed by the musical’s librettist, Chris D’Arienzo, who directed the upcoming film Barry Munday, starring Wilson".
