Sherrybaby
Maggie Gyllenhaal (Sherry Swanson) and director Laurie Collyer at Premiere of "Sherrybaby" 29th August, IFC Center, N.Y. -More information here and here, and the last photoshoot in Marie Claire September 2006. Do you notice a vague resemblance to Claudette Colbert, specially the 30/40's retro hairdo?
Ooh Maggie! You Look great and I wish you all the best in 2006 (what a year its gonna be for her; baby six films...Oscar?? God I hope so, she deserves it.)
ReplyDeleteI know you wanted Marie Claire Sept. magazine, so I've posted these pics in your honor, soon more Mags (including the silhouette b/n photo).
ReplyDeleteto me she looks like Kiki de Montparnasse ;)
ReplyDeleteSo many times I've seen "Kiki de Montparnasse" in Pablo Gargallo Museum. Gargallo was an Aragonese sculptor who portraited the parisine Kiki although she never posed for him, you have a great eye!
ReplyDeletehey Kendra!
ReplyDeleteI love all that old stuff!
I have quite good knowledge about art because I'm artist and I was many times in Paris to see museums, so I know Montmartre, Montparnasse, I have spend in Paris more than 2 months
I can recommend spending some time in Paris to anyone...Jake was there recently! There is nothing better...unfortunately I haven't ever been in Spain ...I'm also a little like Kiki...little girl, old fashioned...so Spain was a little too far for me.
But I adore most of all others great Spanish cinema...all directors and movies you mentioned on JakeWatchBoard...everybody should work this way
You're invited to meet me if someday you decided to come for a Spanish trip, Barcelona is a varied and idiosyncractic metropolis, good weather, many museums and galleries, you'd love it!
ReplyDeleteSuch terrific pictures..!
ReplyDeleteYes, Penny Lane, I concur that she's a talented model.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kendra.
ReplyDeleteI wish I can find a link to the full interview inside. I'd love to read it, I never knew that the UK and US versions had different covers.
I mean, they are aiming upmarket but put Paris friggin' Hilton on the UK cover??? WTF? I'm pissed off!
I'd say this is part of her last MC interview Maggie article, Paris is nightmarish stuff, in Tarragona this month they sell the "In Style" magazine with Kiki on the cover!!
ReplyDeleteYou are simply the best! Thank you so much! I hadn't seen it before, it was quite a good read.
ReplyDeleteSimon, you're quite cinephile, aren't you? So many interesting data you've brought here, it's possible that Clara Bow reminds you more to Maggie than Claudette, but Claudette is more close to me in time, for the little I know, Clara Bow starred in 20's, in many films by Frank Tuttle (his only film known by me is "A cry in the night" starring Natalie Wood), but checking her pictures site I'm amazed of her modern poses! Claudette Colbert was supposed to have an ambiguous sexuality, it's like we haven't progressed so much, after all.
ReplyDeleteThe men and women who made the flapper were a diverse lot.
ReplyDeleteThere was Coco Chanel, the French orphan who redefined the feminine form and silhouette, helping to free women from the torturous corsets and crinolines that had served as tools of social control.
Three thousand miles away, Lois Long, the daughter of a Connecticut clergyman, christened herself "Lipstick" and gave New Yorker readers a thrilling entrée into Manhattan's extravagant Jazz Age nightlife.
In California, where orange groves gave way to studio lots and fairytale mansions, three of America's first celebrities' Clara Bow, Colleen Moore, and Louise Brooks, Hollywood's great flapper triumvirate, fired the imaginations of millions of filmgoers.
Dallas-born fashion artist Gordon Conwayand Utah-born cartoonist John Held crafted magazine covers that captured the electricity of the social revolution sweeping the United States.
"Flapper" the book
I adore this girl!!! The article has lots of good stuff in it! It quotes some director friend of the family as saying that they were never the typical Hollywood family "They aren't obsessed with movies, they're obsessed with politics!!!" The article mentions that Naomi was six months pregnant when she and Stephen married. Megs was SO hilarious talking about her boobs!
