Maggie Gyllenhaal on Losing an Oscar, Dancing With Madonna

"Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal appeared on 'The Graham Norton Show' (Sat., 10PM ET on BCC America). There, she discussed a (sort of) tragic loss, but also told the story of an unexpected benefit.Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal in "Crazy Heart" (2009)

Maggie failed to win an Oscar award for Best Supporting Actress. She lost to eventual winner Mo'Nique. But she told host Graham Norton that she didn't think she would actually win, since her nomination was for the indie movie 'Crazy Heart.'
Though she did confess to a second or two of excitement: "When you're there... and they're opening the envelope and they say 'Mon-nnnique.' And that's a little like 'Maggie!'" Still, things didn't work out. Oh well. But Maggie didn't let her loss get to her.

In fact, Ms. Gyllenhaal still went out and partied. And while she was out, she got to dance with the original "Material Girl" -- Madonna herself. "She didn't even say 'Hi,'" the actress said. "She just nodded at me and started dancing." So while Maggie may not have won the ultimate prize, she still got something out of the deal." Source: www.tvsquad.com

"Hollywood actress Maggie Gyllenhaal has taken over supermodel Kate Moss as the smouldering new face - and knockout body - of lingerie line Agent Provocateur. Gyllenhaal stripped down for a series of sexually charged images, which see the scantily clad star splashing about in a bath and even posing in handcuffs". Source: www.dailymail.co.uk

"The list of celebrities happy to be seen draped in mink or fox, or looking chic in chinchilla, is also growing. Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, Victoria Beckham, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Lindsay Lohan all cuddle up to the contentious stuff. And, controversially, one of the factors which has caused real fur to fly off the shelves appears to be the popularity of fake fur." Source: www.express.co.uk

"On stripping for Love And Other Drugs: “I was naked a lot in the movie. I was naked in more of it than was even in the final cut. A director’s cut? I don’t even know how that would be rated.”On getting Anne Hathaway into bed... on screen: “We talked about what we thought was sexy, about what were the things that interested us, and through the discussion became pretty intimate with each other.”On having screen sex with Anne: “Annie and I had already had sex on film (in Brokeback Mountain). There’s something about the way Annie and I both work which is inherently very musical. It’s all about rhythm. There’s a rhythm to writing, there’s a rhythm to sports, there’s a rhythm to sex.”
On who had it tougher when letting it all hang out: “Annie, because as a woman I think it’s harder. She said at one point, ‘Well, we’re both topless and we both show our butts.’ And I was like, ‘Hmm, but it’s a little different for you.”On his friendship with Anne: “I feel like she’s a comrade. The thing about Anne is that she develops her characters in absolute detail. To the point where she went down to the Lower East Side to buy fluorescent bras for her character. I knew Annie could f**king kill it.”
On admiration for his sister Maggie: “I admire her and continue to admire her. That might play into the reason I don’t have much of a problem letting the women I’ve worked with shine. I love women.”
On where he is most at ease: “I think comedy. That’s why I loved working with Robert Downey Jr (on Zodiac). He and I had this similar kind of working. His energy is a bit more frenetic than but in terms of work, we meshed.” Source: www.esquire.com

"Taylor and Jake reportedly enjoyed the Halloween weekend in California, hitting the pool at the Post Ranch in Big Sur. An eyewitness said, "Taylor laughed at everything Jake said. At one point, she measured herself against Jake on her tiptoes," with another observer adding that Jake "held her hand."
Following the holiday, on late Monday, November 1, Taylor and Jake were said cruising around in Santa Barbara where they stopped for an ice cream break at McConnell's. One staff at the McConnell's snitched, "They looked at all the flavors and couldn't decide, so they asked the counter girls for help."
The pair, who was said looking "happy" and friendly", finally decided their orders - Swiss chocolate chip for Jake and yogurt with rainbow sprinkles for Taylor. The staff further mentioned that the "Mine" singer "was very interested in" what the staff "was doing in the back making ice cream and said, 'Wow, you guys are legit'."

After reportedly spending for about 20 minutes at McConnell's, Taylor and Jake split with the "Brokeback Mountain" star paying the bill". Source: www.aceshowbiz.com

Taylor Swift in Girl's Life magazine (2010)

"Taylor Swift couldn't escape speculation she is more than just a friend with Jake Gyllenhaal. Even though it has been claimed earlier she is unlikely to get serious with Jake because she's "not really interested in getting heavily involved with anyone", the country star has been hit with report that she spent a romantic weekend with the "Brothers" actor in Big Sur, California.

Lainey Gossip reported the "Mine" hitmaker and the "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" actor were spotted holding hands and wrapping their arms around each other at Post Ranch Inn over the weekend. Supporting Lainey report, celebrity blogger Zack Taylor cited an eyewitness, "I saw them together this weekend. They stayed at the Post Ranch Inn and looked very cute together holding hands."
The "friendly" weekend is not the first one Taylor shared with Jake. She has been seen watching the taping of "Saturday Night Live" together with the ex-boyfriend of Reese Witherspoon on October 23. The following day, they were seen out together again for a lunch at Al Di La before strolling around Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood.
Romance report aside, the 20-year-old singer has signed a deal with Elizabeth Arden to create her own fragrance, which is expected to hit the shelves in the fall 2011. In a released statement, she shared, "I have always loved how fragrance can shape a memory the way certain scents remind you of events and people that are imprinted in your thoughts." Marilyn Monroe and Jean Harlow ("She's my best friend")

"To Marilyn, Jean Harlow was more than a hero: Harlow's life was in many ways a blueprint of her own.
Born on March 3, 1911 in Kansas City, Harlean Carpenter was known simply as "The Baby" when growing up with her maternal grandparents. Like so many of Hollywood's most memorable sex symbols, Harlow often played the parts of dangerous, sexually charged women with flaws that mirrored her own nature and history.
Harlow's break into the movies came in 1928, when she began to pick up roles as an extra. Then in 1930, Howard Hughes put her in "Hell's Angels", in which Harlow stole the show with her sly and assured sexuality. Frank Capra made history when his lingering shots of her body in "Platinum Blonde" (1931). During the brief period when young Norma Jeane lived with her mother, and best friend Grace Goddard she was often taken to see her screen idol Harlow in movies like; Dinner at Eight (1933), Bombshell (1933), and The Girl From Missouri (1934). Harlow's last movie, opposite Clark Gable, was Saratoga (1937). She died on June 7, 1937, aged just twenty-six, from complications of uremic poisoning (acute nephritis).
The parallels in the lives of Monroe and Harlow are overwhelming: both were brought up by strict Christian Scientists (in Norma Jeane's case, her beloved foster parent, Ana Lower); both were married three times; both left school at sixteen to marry their first husbands (Harlow eloped with a millionaire); both spent their lives seeking out their father; and both died in tragic and some say suspicious circumstances. They both acted opposite Clark Gable in the last film they ever made. Intrigingly, Gable once said of Harlow, "She didn't want to be famous, she wanted to be happy," a quote that can be equally applied to Marilyn.
Both of them tested the morals of their days by posing nude, flaunting their bodies, and eschewing underwear; both of them acted under their mother's maiden names. Each lived on North Palm Drive at one point in their lives. Marilyn, like Harlow, had to go on a one woman strike to improve her extremely unfavorable contract terms and payment rates at the height of her popularity. The parallels continue even at the end of their lives; both actresses were regularly prescribed sedatives by their doctors; just months before both actresses died, they went to a presidential birthday celebration (Harlow went to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's birthday ball, Marilyn to President John Kennedy's), for which they were reprimanded by their studios. After she had become a star, Marilyn became ruefully aware of the striking similarities in their lives. In 1957 she told Milton Greene: "I kept thinking of her, rolling over the facts of her life in my mind. It was kind of spooky, and sometimes I thought, am I making this happen? But I don't think so. We just seemed to have the same spirit or something, I don't know. I kept wondering if I would die young like her, too."
Although Marilyn never managed to fulfil her long-held dream of playing Harlow on screen, she did pose as her hero for photographer Richard Avedon in 1958, as part of a screen goddesses series. In his commentary on the photographs, Arthur Miller expressed his own personal preference for her homage to Harlow, which she portrayed "not so much by wit, as by her deep sympathy for that actress's tragic life."
Clark Gable, who acted opposite Jean Harlow in five films, compared the two actresses after working with Marilyn on The Misfits (1961): "Harlow was always very relaxed, but this girl is high-strung, and she worries more - about her lines, her appearance, her performance. She is constantly trying to improve as an actress."Even in death Marilyn emulated her heroine. The flowers delivered every week to her grave by Joe DiMaggio were the fulfillment of a promise he had made to Marilyn that he would be as devoted to her as William Powell had been to Harlow. Powell regularly sent flowers to his love's resting place in Forrest Lawn". Source: www.marilynmonroe.ca
