"We open on Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) standing atop a rooftop cathedral cross, in a slick 360-degree shot and then we learn through voiceover that the Gods have a plan for Dastan. We get a rather amazing shot of Dastan with the mysterious Dagger of Time, which can release the Sands of Time and allow the possessor to control space and time and, essentially, rule the world. To stop the evil forces that seek the Dagger, Dastan must team up with a rival princess named Tamina (Gemma Arterton) who, as we're shown in the trailer, form an unlikely alliance and, of course, the possibilities of romance. We also see other key members of the cast here such as Ben Kingsley as Nizam and Alfred Molina as Sheik Amar, and I have to say that this is one hell of a trailer. The film really feels like a revamped version of an Indiana Jones film, only this is set centuries before and also has the benefit of the amazing special effects and cutting-edge technology. It's also quite fitting since Mechner created the first game in 1989 off a heavy influence from the film Raiders Of The Lost Ark. However, fans of that 1989 original should know that the film was based off the more modern Sands of Time game Mechner created, and not the original game. Still, this really does look like a film that could easily spawn a blockbuster franchise and - despite the numerous misgivings many had about the casting of Jake Gylennhaal - it truly does look like he pulls off this Dastan character in wonderful fashion, and they did a nice job in the trailer teasing the chemistry between Dastan and white-hot newcomer Gemma Arterton's Tamina". "The opening shot stuck in my mind pretty clearly, but perhaps for an unintended reason. It showed Gyllenhaal standing at the end of a wood outcropping on the roof of a building, which reminded me more of Assassin's Creed than Prince of Persia. Of course, Assassin's Creed borrowed a lot of gameplay cues from the Prince of Persia games, so it is a bit of a moot point. As a fan of the ridiculous acrobatics in the games, one of the aspects I was specifically watching for in the trailer was the stuntwork. As expected, the action is heavy on the CG, but as a result the free running in the trailer is as unbelievable as in the games, if not more so. Some specific moves shown off in the trailer will be familiar to fans of the games, while others are so fantastic that a game would be hard pressed to replicate them outside of a cut-scene or quick time event. Suffice it to say that I was pleased with the quality and density of acrobatic stunts in the trailer, and I hope that the movie maintains both". Source: destructoid.com

Stephen Gyllenhaal talks about his project "Zioncheck for President" (2009).
"Zioncheck for President—the book by former Stranger writer Phil Campbell chronicling his stint as campaign manager to former Stranger writer Grant Cogswell during his 2001 run for Seattle City Council—has been optioned for a film that will be directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal and shot in Seattle. Veteran producer/director Stephen Gyllenhaal has bought the film rights to Phil Campbell's memoir, Zioncheck for President: A True Story of Idealism and Madness in American Politics.According to Gyllenhaal: "I think Zioncheck is a very honest and real portrayal of what happens when two citizens, who know very little about the political process, jump into that process. It's wonderfully funny, it's poignant, and it gives you the sense that anyone can accomplish something if you put your mind to it." Digital video technology now makes it possible to shoot a film cheaply and without sacrificing on quality, he said. "Zioncheck for President is about doing things by the skin of your teeth," Gyllenhaal said. "And I want to do things the same way."
He added: "I want to film in Seattle because that's in keeping with Zioncheck, too. Seattle is a beautiful city, and there's a lot going on there. The music and the progressive politics are important to this story". Source: slog.thestranger.com
