Brothers and Esquire's top 2009 women

"Brothers" clip "He's dead":

"Maguire plays a Marine, Sam, who volunteers, much to the dismay of his wife (Portman) and young daughters, for a second tour of duty in Afghanistan. When he is reported killed, his widow has difficulty accepting it. But she has his brother (Gyllenhaal) to help her and her daughters go through the ordeal and even bring a sunny presence into the home.
But, after torture-filled months as a hostage, Sam returns, a changed man. Maguire is fine at being creepy. Yet the actor uneasily makes the transition from the good-guy father to the clearly traumatized vet, despite the fact his war experience has been depicted graphically by the script and director Jim Sheridan. The family is complicated by the father (playwright-actor Sam Shepard), an alcoholic former Marine officer who terms Sam the superior son. But the fact is, Sam can only function in the violent aspect of the military.Gyllenhaal comes off best. He has an easy role to play, except for one scene in which he is seen preparing to make amends to the teller whose bank he robbed". Source: blog.syracuse.com

Kirsten Dunst
We know what it's like to have a rough few years, so we won't fault you for Wimbledon, Marie Antoinette, or Spider-Man 3. It made us miss even more the Kirsten we'd been so charmed by in Eternal Sunshine.
Anna Friel (February)
"I had a greasy threesome with Jonathan Rhys Meyers and another actor called Jeremy Northam, and we were literally in a bed for two days."
Kate Mara (March)
She talks about being nervous about her photo shoot since she spent the last month in London, working on a play, thirty nights at the pub.
Katy Perry (April)
"If a man could ride this roller coaster with me and come out alive, then I guess we'd deserve each other's company."
Megan Fox (June)
"I just think he's a lame superhero. He's not interesting. He's not dark. He's just kind of a douchebag."
Bar Refaeli (July)
"It's all in the definition of the bones."
Abbie Cornish (October)
"Mixed martial arts, fighting, swords, weapons, choreography, personal trainers," she enumerates proudly, the beguiling accent of a proper sheila. "We add gun stuff at the end of the day."
Kate Beckinsale (November)
"This whole notion of being named Sexiest Woman Alive is going to earn me quite a beating," she says. "You can't have that title with four brothers. I'll get wedgies. Headlocks. Noogies".
